SUITA, Osaka: To make and distribute 130 free dental model sets to schools for visually impaired individuals and other institutions across Japan, the Osaka University Graduate School of Dentistry recently launched a crowdfund seeking 12 million Yen (about 106,000 US$).
The dental models would be twice as big as regular ones, and one can change the teeth alignment freely. The model's hefty size allows dentists to show visually impaired people how to brush their teeth while enabling them to touch the models.
Some people with visual disabilities had expressed issues with regular-sized dental models, saying that they are "too small," and the new model was made twice as large to ensure it is easier for patients to recognize the teeth by touch.
Satoshi Imazato, Dean, Graduate School of Dentistry, said they were seeking broad support for the project so that people with visual impairments could be benefitted from good oral health.
