The Department of Community Dentistry, Baqai Dental College (BDC) has always pioneered in the practices of community services and have set a trend of carrying out dental programs, for the under privileged.
This time, BDC’s team of Community and Preventive Dentistry, visited the villages of Gilgit Baltistan, headed by Prof Dr. Asghar Ali Shigri, Head of Community Dentistry Department, BDC.
The team targeted the schools of two villages namely Askole and Hotto, located in upper Braldo, Shigar. The aim was to create awareness amongst the school children, regarding the importance of brushing their teeth and the consequences of negligence.
Despite the difficult road conditions, BDC’s team managed to reach the villages. According to them, there could be no place more beautiful than Gilgit Baltistan, consisting of breathtaking mountains and valleys, inhabited by the most hospitable people.
On reaching Hotto followed by Askole, the team was welcomed by the inhabitants of both the villages. The team soon made their way to the only school in Hotto. Similarly, the two schools located in Askole were also covered. A dental camp was set up to examine the students, whereas toothpastes and toothbrushes were distributed among the children, followed by a presentation regarding the right way of brushing, alongside its importance and consequences of dental caries. An interactive question-answer session was held, where the students were awarded with small gifts upon every correct answer.
This attempt made by Baqai Dental College (BDC) was highly appreciated on a national level. Department of Community Dentistry, BDC, proved that little contributions can really bring about a wonderous change.
