KARACHI: Sindh Health Minister recently asked private medical universities and colleges to ignore the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) rule and initiate the admissions process with 50 per cent marks.

Dr Azra Pechuho, Provincial Minister of Sindh for Health and Population Welfare, told private medical colleges not to be scared by the ‘threats’ of the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) and start granting admissions to students with 50 per cent marks in the Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT).

The PMC had already warned medical and dental colleges in the country not to give admissions to students who have not passed MDCAT with 65 per cent marks or would face strict penal action per the law, including accreditation and registration cancellation as a medical or dental college.

Sindh health minister assured the private institutes that they should not be afraid of PMC threats. She said that the provincial government would establish Sindh Medical and Dental Council and get it recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and other international accreditation agencies.
