Medical colleges should prioritize research, says NUMSR Pro VC

FAISALABAD: Understanding the importance of research in medical education, retired Maj Gen Prof Dr Muhammad Aslam, Pro Vice Chancellor of the National University of Medical Sciences Rawalpindi (NUMSR), called for a focus on research initiatives to enhance the quality of medical training and address emerging healthcare challenges.

Speaking at the "White Coat" ceremony of the Aziz Fatima Medical College (AFMC), Dr Aslam said that while the medical profession offers a noble vocation and livelihood for young graduates, it is necessary for medical colleges to prioritize research activities. He highlighted that research not only enriches medical education but also provides cost-effective solutions to tackle evolving diseases, ultimately benefiting humanity.

Dr. Aslam acknowledged the role of private sector medical institutions in bridging the gap in healthcare services, particularly in light of the inadequate provision of qualified doctors in Pakistan's growing population.

He lauded the AFMC management for its efforts in modernizing and enhancing the medical curriculum, which he believed would contribute to the production of specialised physicians and pave the way for innovative research to address emerging healthcare challenges effectively.
