LAHORE: Akhtar Saeed Medical and Dental College (AMDC) aims to educate dental graduates about the latest advancements in the field of dentistry.
A seminar on the topic of “Implant-bone Interface” was recently held at Akhtar Saeed Medical and Dental College. Dr Sabir Hussain Principal Akhtar Saeed Dental College (ASDC) organised this event. Program started with the recitation of Holy Quran.
Guest speaker was DrMuhammad Faisal Rana currently working as a consultant Periodontist and Implantologist in Kuwait University. He is a foreign well-qualified dentist. He obliged us with visiting our campus. He shed some light on basics of the implant and bone interface. He described the role of periodontal conditions of the patient and its impact on the implant stability.
According to him, the Periodontal status of a patient is the key to success for any clinical procedure. Basic periodontal examination (BPE) scoring is universally accepted for concluding the prognosis of the treatment plan. He stated that this scoring should be done by every general dental practitioner. According to the new classification of periodontal diseases 2017 BPE score of 3 is best suitable for implant placement.
It gives us clues about the loopholes which can lead to implant failure. So Implant-bone interface is the critical area which needs to be properly evaluated before the actual procedure.
Today, patients choose implants as their last option to correct esthetics as well as mastication. His opinion was that nothing can replace a natural tooth neither a fixed nor a removable prosthesis. If a person maintains his oral hygiene and takes care of his periodontium with proper brushing and flossing methods, he or she will not be prone to poor dental health.
He shared two cases with us for better understanding of the topic. Through these cases he enlightened the prevalence of the periodontal diseases. Peri-implantitis was also discussed in detail. He further stated that the predictive outcomes for the success of implant largely depend on the maintenance of oral hygiene. Methods to cope the implant failures were also discussed.
There was a question and answer session at the end. All the faculty members and house officers participated in the session followed by bundle of thanks by the principal.
