KARACHI: Fatima Jinnah Dental College (FJDC) recently conducted an online awareness session on World Hepatitis Day-themed “Hepatitis Can’t-Wait”.
The faculty conducted a 2-hour online session for the students. They informed them about viral hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver that causes severe liver disease and cancer. They also explained the five main strains of the hepatitis virus, i.e. A, B, C, D and E, with their respective symptoms, prevention and treatment.
The purpose of the session was to enlighten the students and faculty more about this deadly disease. Together, hepatitis B and C have been the most common, which result in 1.1 million deaths and 3 million new infections per year. Every 30 seconds, a person has died from a hepatitis-related illness.
Dr Hussain Askary, CEO and Head of Community Dentistry Department, FJDC, also gave a message on World Hepatitis Day. In his message. He focused on the threat, prevention, treatment and elimination of viral hepatitis.
