TAXILA: HITEC-Institute of Medical Sciences (HITEC-IMS) Dental College recently arranged a Communications Skills workshop for the faculty development program. The workshop was attended by faculty members from the basic and clinical departments.
Prof. Dr Sadaf Mumtaz facilitated the workshop. The workshop aimed to enhance specifically the student-facilitator and the doctor-patient communication skills.
Doctor-patient communication is a rigorous task involving history taking, elucidating a diagnosis and prognosis, providing treatment instruction, and counselling. The optimal health service delivery model by World Health Organization (WHO) lists communication skills as one of the attributes of a seven-star doctor. The Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) adhere to the WHO guidelines on seven-star attributes in postgraduate and undergraduate medical and dental education. The College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) competency framework includes communication skills as a major competency.
