KARACHI: The Department of Health Professions Education (DHPE) at Liaquat College of Medicine and Dentistry (LCMD) recently conducted a hands-on workshop on e-learning tools to help its faculty keep up with evolving modern teaching trends.
In order to make teaching effective and learning more fruitful, an interactive classroom is key. The workshop was aimed at helping the teaching staff improve their ability to hold effective lectures that would increase class participation.
Dr Yusra Nasir, In-charge, DHPE, conducted the workshop, and Dr Sabaa Shahid facilitated it.
The workshop started with an introduction to the Socrative Application. All participants were grouped and were asked to work as a team in learning how to operate and then demonstrate successful conduction of short quizzes on the application.
The second e-learning tool introduced was QUIZIZ, and participants were walked through step by step on how to easily start and run the application to its maximum benefit.
Next up were two very interesting applications called Padlet and Jamboard, which would help educators in assessing the taught topic at the end of a lesson. A post-workshop assignment was also given to help reinforce taught techniques.
