LARKANA: Japanese expert Prof Yoshiaka Takaya has said consumption of strawberries can help in the management of diabetes.
He was speaking at the inaugural session of the two-day international conference on 'Emerging Trends in Basic Medical Science' hosted by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) in collaboration with the Sindh Higher Education Commission.
The conference, inaugurated by SMBBMU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Nusrat Shah, brought together experts from various disciplines including medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy, and physiotherapy. Prof Dr. Shah highlighted the significance of pioneering research in combating prevalent health challenges, particularly given Pakistan's considerable population growth and the prevalence of various diseases.
The conference featured discussions on advancing medical education, with Malaysian expert Dr. Kamalrul Aryffin emphasizing the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing learning experiences for medical students. Dr Aryffin stressed the importance of workplace-based learning and the integration of cutting-edge technologies in medical education.
Prof Shahjahan Katpar advocated for the establishment of a dedicated dental council to raise standards and international recognition within the field of dental education in Pakistan.
The event featured a diverse panel of international speakers, including Prof Tarsh Mahmudino from Indonesia, Prof Izhar bin Muhammad Ismail from Malaysia, Prof Muhammad Hanif from America, and Dr Yabuh Kwaka from Ghana, among others.
A parallel session held at the Latif Auditorium of Chandka Medical College featured keynote speakers from the University of Sains Malaysia, Meijo University Japan, and Al-Faisal University Saudi Arabia, who discussed emerging trends in basic medical sciences.
The conference witnessed presentation of 96 research papers covering various domains of basic medical sciences, fostering a conducive environment for interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange among participants.
In her closing remarks, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Nusrat Shah thanked all participants for their invaluable contributions.
