Harassment allegations rock de'Mont Dental College

LAHORE: The Office of the Ombudsperson Punjab has issued a formal call letter to address a workplace harassment complaint lodged against Dr. Faiz Rasual, Personal Assistant to the Principal of de’Montmorency College of Dentistry, Lahore. The complaint, submitted by a female staff member, has triggered serious concerns about workplace safety and professional conduct within the institution.

According to the written application, the complainant alleged that on November 5, 2024, Dr. Faiz summoned her under the pretext of marking attendance. During the meeting, he reportedly exhibited inappropriate behavior and gestures. Following this, he allegedly contacted her multiple times via his personal number, coercing her into agreeing to demands, including reinstating his position as an accountant—something the complainant had resisted.

Sources further revealed that Dr. Faiz has a troubling history of harassment and misuse of authority, targeting junior female staff and faculty members. Reports indicate that his deliberate tampering with attendance records and direct interventions have significantly impacted administrative processes.

The complainant also accused Dr. Faiz of collaborating with Dr. Kashif, the Hostel Warden at de’Mont College, who had already been declared guilty of workplace harassment by the Ombudsperson Punjab in a previous case. She alleged that Dr. Faiz repeatedly called her to his office for personal meetings and used Dr. Kashif to intimidate her by replacing her as the focal person with another female doctor.

The complaint has now urged the health department to take immediate and decisive action against both Dr. Faiz and Dr. Kashif, demanding their suspension or transfer. The complainant emphasized that their continued presence poses a serious risk to the safety and dignity of female staff members, young doctors, and postgraduate residents at the dental college.

When contacted, Dr. Faiz denied the allegations, claiming them to be false and baseless. However, given the severity of the matter and its implications, calls are growing for an independent inquiry. Staff and faculty insist that immediate intervention is necessary to ensure a harassment-free environment within the institution.

The onus is now on the Health Department, University of Health Sciences (UHS), and relevant authorities to take decisive action and restore confidence in the system. Female staff and faculty members are looking for assurances that their safety, dignity, and professional environment remain uncompromised.
