LAHORE: Punjab cabinet has approved a plan to upscale treatment and other facilities at the seven major public sector hospitals in the province to provide better healthcare services to the masses.
The approval was accorded at the 20th cabinet meeting presided over by caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi held at the CM office.
The cabinet gave its nod to rehabilitation, construction, repairs and restructuring of Mayo Hospital, Jinnah Hospital, General Hospital, Dental Hospital, Children Hospital in Lahore, Nishtar Hospital in Multan and Allied Hospital in Faisalabad.
The cabinet also approved issuance of a Rs5 billion grant for the hospitals' upgrade.
Giving priority to child health, the cabinet decided that in the first phase of the upgrade scheme, treatment facilities and infrastructure would be improved at the Children Hospital Lahore and the emergency wards of the Institute of Child Health Multan.
The cabinet also approved free treatment of government employees at the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) by setting up a revolving fund for the purpose.
The meeting also allowed changing names of District Headquarters Hospital, Kasur, to Baba Bulleh Shah (RA) Hospital and DHQ Hospital Faisalabad to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Hospital.
It approved a grant-in-aid for the upgrade of the Government Central Model School, Lower Mall, Lahore.
It was decided to take back control of water supply and sanitation works from the concerned local governments and hand it over to the Punjab Rural Municipal Services Company.
The cabinet accorded approval to de-notify the Board of Directors of Punjab Agriculture and Meat Company.
The meeting was attended by provincial ministers, advisers to CM, Punjab chief secretary, inspector general of police and other officials concerned.
