Once dental students have graduated into the dental hospital setting amicably, there are many things that they must start to practice right away. Among many lies the patient handling, patient dealing, basic dental school etiquette and last but not least, the professional dress code.

The Dress Code

The dentist's dress code lies at the heart of the doctor's practice and is the most noticeable after your dental setting. Meanwhile, many must consider the focus on the dress code innocuous compared to other issues. However, it requires as much attention as patient handling or dental etiquette. Read on to learn about the basic dress code for dentists and what one should wear to their dental practice.

Scrubs

Scrubs are undeniably the most universal and the most-followed dress code in a dental school or hospital. Many dentists in their clinics also follow the same dress code because they look highly professional, but they are also very comfortable to work in. Scrubs allows one to create harmony among the staff and is a great way to create a sense of unity among the team. Colour-coordinated scrubs are another way to put a fun twist on the suit.

Scrubs are easy to clean and allow the most comfortable movements for the dentists. Wearing scrubs to the dental setting also takes away the efforts of dressing up and choosing an outfit every day.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

PPE might always have been part of dental hygiene practices and protocols. However, the need for the subsequent was enhanced during COVID-19. PPE is one great way to prevent catching the virus since the amount of coverage provided by the gear is uncanny. The complete unit includes a protective clothing suit, eye frames, gloves, facemask, and shoe covers. While PPE might not be as comfortable as scrubs, it sure is a great way to protect oneself and the staff from a potential infection.

White Coat

Whitecoat is another versatile clothing worn by doctors, be it medical or dental specialists. The white coat offers a significant unity among the staff and makes the dentist stand out as an authoritative figure.

The white coat made its way in the early 19th century when science was in full bloom. While the white coat was worn to reduce cross-contamination between patients and physicians, it soon made its way to the dental field.

Button-Down With Pants

Neutrals are a great way to project professionalism through a dress code. If the idea is to stay stylish without looking repetitive, investing in neutrals is the safest option for a dental work environment. A few earthy-toned blouses with solid-coloured pants can help organise the closet. This will also help avoid the hassle of mixing and matching your outfit every day.

While choosing an outfit for the dental practice might seem daunting, it doesn't have to come at the expense of one's confidence. Wearing whatever makes one feel confident and comfortable is the best bet in a clinical setting, given that the outfit is not hindering dental work or the protocols.
