KARACHI: The Bahria University Health Sciences Campus Karachi’s (BUHSCK) Department of Periodontology & Oral Medicine organised a poster contest for its 3rd Year BDS students, who presented posters on various topics related to their respective subjects.
The event was organised and facilitated by Dr Farzeen Tanwir (HOD), Dr Natasha Zaidi (Senior Registrar), Dr Bushra Ijaz (Registrar) from Periodontology department and Dr Arsalan Khalid (Assistant professor) Dr Moona Mumtaz (Senior Registrar) and Dr Farah Irshad (Senior Registrar) from Oral Medicine department.
Total five groups of students – three from Periodontology department and two from the Oral Medicine department -- participated in the contest, placing references of different research articles related to the topic they presented.
The competition was aimed to have a better understanding and deeper insight into oral problems.
The judges of the competition were Asst Prof Dr Afsheen Maqsood from Oral Pathology Department, BUHSCK, and Senior Registrar Dr Sarah Irfan from the Orthodontics department were judges of the contest, who evaluated the students' work for their poster layout, subject knowledge, presentation skills, content and through a question-answer session.
The event was also graced by the BUHSC Director General retired Vice Admiral Ather Mukhtar (HI) M, Dean Prof Dr Ambreen Usmani, vice principals of dental and nursing sections, besides HODs.
The Periodontology department group with the poster title “Periodontal Surgery” bagged the first position, while “Halitosis” won from the Oral Medicine department.
The students were presented with certificates by BUHSC DG Mr Ather Mukhtar, who also gave a vote of thanks and concluded the ceremony by appreciating and acknowledging the hard work put by students and faculty members to make this event a success.
