KARACHI: The much-anticipated Dental Startup Competition was a hallmark of the second day of the Annual Dental Congress 2024, organised by the Pakistan Association of Dental Students (PADS) held at Aga Khan University (AKU) Hospital, Karachi, showcased brilliant innovations to promote entrepreneurship in dentistry.

The competition was judged by a prestigious panel comprising PDA ex-president Dr. Mumtaz Khan, Dental News CEO Syed Hashim A. Hasan, Dr. Ahmed and Haseeb Uddin, CTO of Authentik. The judges evaluated each presentation on its potential to contribute to the Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and drive advancements in dentistry.

The winners were awarded prizes, with the first prize of Rs50,000 and the runner-up prize of Rs30,000, both sponsored by Authentik Pakistan.

The contest provided a valuable platform for emerging talent to demonstrate their entrepreneurial spirit and creativity.

The standout presentations were by Team AIDM, Team LUMHS, and Team Dow Dental College.

Team AIDM introduced the Smiles N Miles app, a comprehensive solution designed for international patients seeking affordable dental treatments in Pakistan. The app integrates services for dental care, accommodation, tourism, and other essentials, offering a seamless experience for visiting patients.

Team LUMHS presented Bateesi.pk, a platform aimed at enhancing interaction among dentists and between dentists and patients, offering networking opportunities, educational mentorship, and potential earnings for dental professionals.

Team Dow Dental College unveiled the Orthoplus app, a premium subscription service for orthodontic patients that facilitates remote management of orthodontic cases, improving communication and convenience for patients and dentists.

These innovative solutions focused on revenue generation, patient convenience, and technology integration to enhance the dental experience.

The experts termed the contest a beacon of hope and progress for the future of dentistry, highlighting the next generation’s dedication to advancing the field.
