KARACHI: Fatima Jinnah Dental College (FJDC) recently hosted a White Coat Ceremony for the newly admitted 30th batch of students for the Bachelors of Dental Surgery (BDS) program.
Dr Hussain Askary conceived the idea of starting a White Coat Ceremony in Pakistan and held the first White Coat Ceremony in Pakistan on 16th December 2006.
The White Coat Ceremony is a relatively new ritual in Pakistan to mark the entrance into a professional medical or dental college. It is more pertinent at FJDC, as the ceremony marks the sending up of students from Fatima Jinnah Foundation College to its Fatima Jinnah Dental College.
During the ceremony, the students recited the official oath, administered by Dr Tasleem Hosein, Principal FJDC, followed by the distribution of white lab coats. Dr Syed Hussain Askary, CEO & Head of Community Dentistry Department, FJDC, informed the students on how to uphold the highest standards in dental care and services for people and the wider community.
The chief guest, Prof. Dr Zubair Abbasi, Principal SIOHS, JSMU, spoke about career building and also regarding the professional journey to be taken to become a good doctor.
Dr Sabiha Mirza, Vice Principal & Head of Pathology Department, FJDC, welcomed the students and listed the hierarchy of authority and the availability of faculty and herself for any sort of assistance required by them.
Dr Syed Bakar Askary, Chairman of FJDC Hospital, congratulated the students and stated the importance of hard work.
