ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) recently announced the results of National Licensing Examination (NLE) Step 1 (medical), attempted by 11,506 candidates in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta and Multan from December 1 to 6.
7,233 candidates out of 8,069 graduates of local institutions passed the exam. Moreover, 3,437 graduates from foreign medical institutes sat in the test and among them, 1,137 were declared pass.
Shafqat Ali took the first position from CMH Lahore Medical College, who achieved 88.50pc marks. Mr Abbas bagged the second position from Sindh Medical College, Karachi (87.5pc), and Kamaluddin Azam jointly shared the third position from Kabir Medical College Peshawar and Ayeza Nadeem Butt from Services Institute of Medical Sciences Lahore. They scored 86.5pc marks.
Amanullah of Yichun University School of Medicine China topped the exam with 81pc marks among the foreign graduates.
PMC spokesperson said that the results of the Pakistani graduates were heartening, and qualifying the NLE was a fair indicator of the level of clinical training imparted in the colleges, producing a high percentage of successful results.
Whereas the result of foreign graduates had once again highlighted the commission's concerns as the quality of education and especially clinical training being offered by many foreign medical colleges did not follow the locally recognised qualification for obtaining a licence in these foreign countries, he said.
