ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) is poised to introduce a standardized tuition fee structure for private medical and dental colleges in its upcoming Council meeting, addressing growing concerns about the rising costs of medical education in Pakistan.

The move comes in response to public outcry over affordability and accessibility in medical and dental education, with many aspiring doctors and dentists struggling to meet the financial demands of private institutions. The PMDC aims to prevent excessive tuition hikes while maintaining high academic standards across the country’s medical colleges.

In a statement, the PMDC emphasized its commitment to ensuring quality education remains accessible to students. The regulation of tuition fees is a key step toward balancing affordability and sustainability in private medical institutions.

An emergent Council meeting has been convened to finalize a transparent and fair fee policy in collaboration with key stakeholders, which includes representatives of private medical and dental colleges, education experts, and government officials.

The outcome of this meeting will determine the maximum tuition fees private institutions can charge, ensuring a structured and equitable education system.

Earlier, the Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services Regulations and Coordination directed all private medical and dental institutions to halt fee collection for the 2024-2025 academic session until a final decision is made by a special committee formed by the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

This committee, chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan, is tasked with reviewing and revising tuition fees to ensure they remain within reasonable limits while allowing institutions to sustain high-quality education.

What’s Next?

The PMDC has assured that further details and the finalized fee structure will be shared soon through official channels. Students, parents, and stakeholders are encouraged to stay updated on this crucial development, as it will have a lasting impact on medical and dental education in Pakistan.
