ABBOTTABAD: The Abbottabad International Medical Institute (AIMI) recently organised a three-day ‘Rangoona’, which translates to "colourful" in Pashto, showcasing a vibrant celebration of culture, awareness, and entertainment.
Organized by the faculty and students of AIMI, it featured a diverse range of activities, including a ‘Cultural Day’, ‘No Tobacco Day’, and an enchanting ‘Sufi Night’.
On the first day, titled ‘Cultural Day’ AIMI organising team led by Dr Qurat-Ul-Ain, Head of the Department of Community Dentistry, created a colourful cultural extravaganza that beautifully displayed Pakistan's rich heritage.
The event was inaugurated by Dr Ghazanfar Ali (CEO AIMI), in the presence of senior faculty members. Students set up various stalls, such as cultural displays, bake shops, gaming stalls, cultural photo booths, and musical performances. Attendees, including faculty, embraced traditional attire, further enhancing the event's cultural ambiance.
The second day marked AIMI's commemoration of World No Tobacco Day, aligning with the global theme for 2023: "We Need Food Not Tobacco." As part of the occasion, a poster and one-minute film-making competition were held, emphasizing the detrimental effects of tobacco use. AIMI students delivered a brilliant skit titled "Tambaku ka Tamasha," shedding light on the hazards of tobacco consumption.
Prof Ruqiya Sultana, a renowned Gynaecologist, was the chief guest, accompanied by Dr Sadia Fatima, Director of Khyber Medical University, Hazara campus, as the guest of honour, Dr Qurat-Ul-Ain, the chief organiser of the event, presented certificates and shields to the competition winners, esteemed judges, and organisers.
Distinguished personalities, including Dr Ghazanfar Ali (CEO AIMI), Prof Mohammad Akbar (Principal AIMC), Prof Samia Shad (Principal AIDC), Dr Zafeer Husain (Hospital Director), along with faculty members and a large number of students, actively participated in the event. The joint organisation of the event by the Society for Literature, Arts, Media & Sports (SLAMS) and the Department of Medical Education, AIMI, further amplified its impact.
The Sufi Night at the tastefully illuminated auditorium served as the grand finale of the two-day Rangoona event. The evening began with a captivating performance by Rohail, a talented second-year MBBS student, and his band, who mesmerized the audience with their remarkable musical talents. The students joyfully joined Rohail in singing and jamming, fostering an incredible sense of camaraderie.
Following Rohail's performance, a soul-stirring qawwali performance ensued, captivating both students and faculty members. The audience enthusiastically participated, singing along and savoring every moment of the segment.
The two-day Rangoona event concluded on a high note, leaving a lasting impression on all attendees.
