KARACHI/LARKANA: In response to the alarming rise of HIV cases in Larkana and its neighboring districts, authorities have taken swift action to combat the spread of the virus. Concerns have arisen regarding the potential transmission of HIV from Larkana to other areas, prompting the initiation of preparatory efforts to address the situation.
To effectively tackle the HIV crisis, health department officials have announced the establishment of a dedicated HIV cell within the district health office. The primary objective of this cell is to implement preventive measures and curb the further spread of HIV in Larkana.
The Director-General of Health for Sindh province has emphasized the need for decisive action against unlicensed medical practitioners, illegal laboratories, and unauthorized blood banks operating in Larkana. Efforts are underway to identify and clamp down on these establishments, as they have been identified as potential contributors to the HIV outbreak.
Furthermore, the Director-General has called upon the Health Care Commission and the Blood Transfusion Authority to collaborate in implementing measures aimed at preventing the transmission of HIV. Additionally, law enforcement agencies will be engaged to assist in the enforcement of these preventive measures.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the Director-General has reached out to international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), UNAIDS, and UNICEF for support in combating the HIV crisis in Larkana. Their expertise and resources will prove invaluable in developing effective strategies to address the issue.
In a bid to identify and manage HIV cases at an early stage, the health authorities have decided to conduct mandatory HIV screenings for all pregnant women in the Larkana Division. This proactive approach will ensure early detection and timely intervention, thereby reducing the risk of transmission to newborns and improving overall public health outcomes.
With these comprehensive initiatives in motion, health officials aim to mitigate the spread of HIV in Larkana and protect communities from the devastating consequences of the virus. The collaborative efforts between local and international stakeholders are expected to yield positive results in curbing the HIV epidemic and ensuring a healthier future for the region.
