No 'official' request from Sindh govt to reduce MDCAT passing marks

KARACHI: The Sindh government or its health department hasn't officially requested to reduce the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) passing marks for admission in medical and dental colleges in the province, Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) recently said.

Dr Arshad Taqi, President, PMC, told the local newspaper that they had not received any letter, request from the Sindh government for slashing the pass percentage of the MDCAT from 65 to 50 or any delegation from Sindh had approached them in that regard.

As per rulings from the apex courts, the PMC could not interfere with the merit and transparency of the admission process and, therefore, could not bring down the MDCAT pass percentage for the students from a particular province, he said.

There were enough candidates from Sindh who had managed to get the pass percentage in the MDCAT, PMC president said. He further added that there was no restriction in giving admission to deserving and meritorious students from other provinces in the medical and dental colleges of Sindh.
