Karachi: In collaboration with the Community & Preventive Dentistry Department of Dow Dental College, the Asia Pacific Dental Students Association (APDSA) of DUHS organised an oral health awareness campaign at Aisha Islamic Academy Orphanage. The trip was supervised and guided by Dr Muhammad Taqi with his team of lecturers, Dr Babar Zia and Dr Amber Saeed.

The goal of this activity was to educate children regarding preventive oral healthcare. The program consisted of an oral presentation on dental caries, emphasising its etiology and risk factors, focusing on preventive strategies conveyed through teeth models and posters. Our dental students highlighted the significance of maintaining oral hygiene by demonstrating brushing and flossing techniques. Every effort was made to provide the students with one-on-one dental care.

Furthermore, eighty-five children aged 4-15 were diagnosed with oral health conditions. For this purpose, a portable dental unit was also set up to examine the participants. A record was kept of their dental health condition. There were interactive activities for children, such as brushing on tooth models, colouring, and face painting, indulging them in taking more interest. At the end of this program, goody bags containing dental kits were distributed among children to motivate them to maintain their oral hygiene.
