KARACHI: The Arts Council of Pakistan (ACP), Karachi, in collaboration with the Pakistan Eye Bank Society (PEBS), recently organised a free medical camp at the ACP's Haseena Moin Hall.
The inauguration of the medical camp was graced by President of Arts Council, Muhammad Ahmad Shah, and Chairman of the Medical Committee, Dr Qaiser Sajjad.
Expressing his views, ACP President Ahmad Shah said while the council serves as a cultural institution for all of Pakistan, it lacked a medical committee.
He emphasised that beyond art and culture, their primary responsibility lies in ensuring human rights, education, and health.
Recognising the government's limitations in providing healthcare facilities, he acknowledged the crucial role of welfare organizations in this regard.
Notably, many artists associated with the arts council already possess health cards, and efforts are being made to extend the same benefit to all its members. The arts council is also collaborating with the government on health-related initiatives.
Dr Qaiser Sajjad, Chairman of the ACP Medical Committee, expressed gratitude to Ahmed Shah, who established the medical committee 15 years ago, and appreciated the organisation of the medical camp.
President of Pakistan Eye Bank Society, Qazi Sajid, stressed that this medical camp is part of their awareness campaign, as the society has been serving the public for the last 54 years. He expressed his gratitude to President Arts Council, Muhammad Ahmad Shah, for the extensive cooperation provided by the council.
He said the society aims to continually improve its services and introduce innovations, especially in the area of eye donation. The society is equipped to address a wide range of eye-related issues with its comprehensive approach.
