World Oral Health Day (WOHD) is celebrated annually and globally by Oral health professionals and is the culmination of a year-long campaign dedicated to raising global awareness on the prevention and control of oral disease.
WOHD spreads messages of education on how to prevent and control oral disease and the good oral hygiene practices which should be followed by adults and children, enabling them to avoid any unnecessary pain or suffering and ultimately enjoy a better quality of life into old age.
WOHD also champions the prevention and early detection of oral health issues and aims to raise the profile of oral health on a global scale and educate people regarding the link between oral health and systemic health.
In my view it is an obligation of Oral Health Practitioners to make the public cognizant regarding the significance of oral health. We being the professionals are the custodians of entrenching the importance of oral health in our society.
