NA speaker lauds young doctors’ role in healthcare delivery

ISLAMABAD: Young doctors are playing a significant role in transforming the country’s healthcare system by working with dedication and compassion to serve the poor patients.

National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said this while emphasizing the critical role of young doctors in advancing Pakistan’s healthcare system, reaffirming Parliament's commitment to improving healthcare standards countrywide.

Speaking as the chief guest at the 57th Convocation of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) at Islamabad, Mr Sadiq lauded the dedication and compassion of young doctors, calling them essential to the nation’s healthcare progress.

“Patients often sacrifice everything for their treatment in hospitals. In such moments, a kind word or a smile from senior doctors can provide them with a renewed sense of hope,” he remarked during his keynote address.

The event drew an audience, including Punjab Health Advisor retired Maj Gen Azhar Kiyani, former caretaker health minister Punjab Dr Jamal Nasir, CPSP President Dr Mohammad Shoaib Shafi, and a large gathering of doctors, graduating students, and their families.

Sadiq commended CPSP as one of Pakistan’s premier institutions, recognised nationally and internationally for its contributions to medical education and training. He described the graduates as vital pillars of the healthcare system, urging them to uphold ethical and honest relationships with their patients.

The speaker highlighted pressing healthcare challenges, particularly improving maternal and child health and extending medical services to rural areas, emphasizing that addressing these issues requires the dedication and expertise of young medical professionals.

Reflecting on CPSP’s six decades of service, Mr Sadiq praised the institution’s role in maintaining high standards of postgraduate medical education. He lauded the CPSP leadership for equipping graduates with world-class skills while instilling values of compassion and humanity.

The convocation marked a celebration of the young doctors’ achievements, underscoring their critical role in transforming the healthcare landscape of Pakistan.
