RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi is witnessing a concerning spike in dengue cases, with an additional 27 cases reported in the past 24 hours. This development pushes the total number of confirmed cases to 1,992 in the district.
Dr. Sajjad Mehmood, District Coordinator Epidemics Prevention and Control (DCEPC), revealed that among the newly reported cases, ten each had originated from Potohar town urban and Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi areas, while five cases were traced to Chaklala Cantonment and one from Gujjar Khan area.
Currently, there are 101 patients admitted to district hospitals, out of which 72 have been confirmed as dengue cases. Encouragingly, 1,919 patients have been discharged after receiving treatment.
In efforts to contain the spread of the virus, the district administration has taken strict measures. During the last 24 hours, 37 FIRs have been registered, 11 tickets issued, one premise sealed, and a total fine of Rs 200,500 imposed for violations of dengue Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
In a bid to identify breeding grounds for mosquitoes, health teams conducted indoor surveillance, inspecting 16,759 houses, and discovering larvae in 547 homes. During outdoor surveillance at 6,352 locations, larvae were found at 93 sites.
To manage the increasing number of dengue patients, district health facilities have allocated 228 beds. Unfortunately, three admitted patients are currently in critical condition, highlighting the importance of prompt medical attention.
Local authorities are urging residents to take necessary precautions, such as eliminating stagnant water sources and using mosquito repellents, to help curb the dengue outbreak in the region.
