KARACHI: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has announced a ban on smoking and the use of all tobacco products at Karachi International Airport, including pan, chalia, and gutka.
The decision comes as the CAA issued a circular notifying passengers and airport employees about the ban, which will be effective from November 6. The ban is particularly directed towards those individuals who engage in activities like chewing pan, achalasia, smoking, or consuming snuff inside the terminal building of Karachi's Jinnah International Airport.
Strict measures will be taken against individuals found in violation of this ban, including employees of companies operating at the airport. Airport entry passes for employees caught violating the ban will be canceled.
The Airports Security Force (ASF) and CAA Vigilance have been tasked with ensuring strict enforcement of this ban. In addition to penalties for violators, a fine of 1000 will be imposed on individuals caught chewing pan, chalia, or gutka within the airport premises.
This decision comes as a response to the presence of pan-gutka spitting signs within the terminal building, elevators, and exits of the airport, prompting the authorities to take action and prioritize the health and cleanliness of the airport environment.
The CAA urges all passengers, visitors, and employees to adhere to the new regulations and contribute to a smoke-free and healthier atmosphere at Karachi International Airport.
