LAHORE: The Dental School of University College of Medicine and Dentistry (UCMD), University of Lahore (UOL), has provided free community dental services to the population of suburban and rural areas around its dental hospital.
Apart from community dental services and visits to the pre and primary schools, there has been an established Community Dental Clinic in collaboration with The Noor Project, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), for the community’s welfare.
The faculty of Community Dentistry, with their mission of providing oral healthcare to all, regularly visits the community clinic and has direct communications with the administration NGO to better the community in terms of oral health.
The Community Dental Clinic has been serving the local
community since the summers of 2018 and has benefitted more than 2500 patients. The administration of the University Dental Hospital has supported the Community Dental Clinic in all respects and provided the necessary equipment and materials for the smooth running of the clinic.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic (COVID-19), despite the situation and safety of healthcare professionals, the dental faculty resumed the dental services to the community from 15th of September 2020 under strict protocols and SOP’s given by CDC (Centres for Disease Control) a
nd ADA (American Dental Association). Treatment modalities were also modified according to the need and current circumstances. Again, more than 450 patients have been screened, medicated, treated, and referred to the University Dental Hospital.
