SHCC nod to quality standards for labs, dental services

KARACHI: The 62nd meeting of the Board of Commissioners (BoC) of the Sindh Healthcare Commission (SHCC), approved minimum service delivery standards for laboratories and dental services presented before it to ensure provision of quality healthcare to the people of the provimce.

The meeting recently convened by BoC Chairman Dr Khalid Shaikh in Karachi was attended by the board members, including Dr Ghulam Rasool Shah, Dr Abdul Ghafoor Shoro, Dr Mirza Ali Azhar, Prof Sameer Qureshi, Prof Shoaib Gangat, and Dr Ahson Qavi Siddiqi, CEO of SHCC.

The board's thorough review of the quality standards culminated in the decision to forward these standards for official notification in the gazette.

Dr Shaikh appreciated CEO Dr Siddiqi and his technical team, acknowledging their efforts in preparing the minimum service delivery standards and underscored the importance of regulating dental and laboratory services to curb the spread of communicable diseases, particularly Hepatitis B and C, and HIV-Aids in Sindh. He urged the SHCC team to promptly implement measures to ensure the quality of these services.

During the meeting, CEO Dr Siddiqi presented a draft Audited Statement of Accounts report from third-party auditors for the Board's approval. Dr GR Shah, convener of the Accounts and Finance Committee, reviewed the report and proposed its approval to the Board. The Board sanctioned the third-party audit report and directed the CEO to submit a copy to the health department, in accordance with the SHCC Act of 2017.

The Board also approved the engagement of the National Testing Service (NTS) for the recruitment of vacant positions within SHCC, aligning with its commitment to ensuring a qualified and competent workforce.
