Peshawar: Prof. Dr Fazal Ghani, Head of Department of Prosthodontics, Dean PG Dental Studies & Coordinator International, Peshawar Dental College recently died due to cardiac arrest.
Prof. Dr Ghani has a distinguished career in dentistry and he is the first dentist with PhD degree from the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Pakistan). He has earned the qualifications of PhD (London), FDSRCPSGlasg, FRSM (UK), MSc (London) and BDS, BSc from Peshawar University (Pakistan),
Prof. Dr Ghani has studied and worked in the world most prestigious dental institutions including Eastman Dental Institute London, University college and Middlesex School of Medicine and Dentistry London, University College London (UCL), The Dental Institute of the Royal London Medical College, The Graduate School of Dentistry, Tohoku University Japan, Wonkwong University Dental School, South Korea and The Glasgow University Dental School Glasgow, Scotland (UK).
Prof. Ghani has held many important positions and handled various high profile assignments. His distinguished careers includes being founder Editor -in- Chief, Journal of The Pakistan Prosthodontics Association (JPPA), Immediate Past President of the Pakistan Prosthodontics Association (PPA). He has the honour of being the first Pakistani Dental Teacher as Member of the Panel of Examiners for MFDS Examinations of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, The Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG) UK since 2004 till 2025. He is also the Member in the Fellowship Advisory Group for Pakistan (FAGP, Committee for Short Life Services Working Group (SLSWG) of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow (UK) since 2014 of the RCPSG.
Prof. Dr Ghani is the pioneer training supervisor, Member Faculty of Prosthodontics & Examiner & Training Supervisor for fellowship (FCPS) Prosthodontics Program of the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP). He has trained and examined over a hundred of FCPS and MCPS trainee medical officers in the specialty of Prosthodontics with many more in their various training years and stages.
Prof. Dr Ghani has extensive publication experience of more than 100 papers and reviewing experience of more than 500 Manuscripts for national and international journals including British Dental Journal, Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry (USA), European Journal Prosthodontics & Restorative Dentistry (UK), Journal of Japan Prosthodontics Society (Japan), Journal of Prosthodontics (USA), Journal of the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Pakistan (JCPSP), Journal of the Pakistan Dental Association (JPDA), Journal of the Pakistan Prosthodontics Association (JPPA), Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences, Journal of the Pakistan Medical association (JPMA), Journal of the Rawalpindi Medical University, Journal of the Indian Prosthodontics Society (JIPS). He has also authored two Textbooks in his specialty of prosthodontics.
Prof. Dr Ghani is Associate Editor of Journal of the Pakistan Dental Associatin (JPDA).
Prof. Dr Ghani is Member of the Advisory Committees and Boards of Reviewers for many national and international journals including Journal of Prosthodontics (USA), Journal of Oral Rehabilitation (UK), European Journal of Prosthodontics (Turkey), African Journal of Public Health and Epidemiology (AJPHE), Journal of the College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan (JCPSP), Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences (PJMS), Journal of Dow University of Health Sciences (JDUHS), Journal of Postgraduate Medical Institute (JPMI), Annals of King Edward Medical University Journal (AKEMUJ), Journal of Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences (JLUMHS) and Kohat Medical Journal (KMJ) & Journal of Pakistan Medical Association (JPMA).
Prof. Dr Ghani has presented research & delivered keynote lectures at more than 100 national & international meetings & conferences including the British Society for the Study of Prosthetic Dentistry (BSSPD, British Society for Oral and Dental Research (BSODR), International Association for Dental Research (IADR), American Association for Dental Research (AADR), Asian Academy of Cranio-Mandibular Disorders (AACMD).
