KARACHI: The Department of Community & Preventive Dentistry, Bahria University Dental College (BUDC), under the umbrella of the Community Support Program (CSP), carried out an "Oral health awareness and free dental checkup session" at EDHI Old Home, New Karachi.
The team of CSP, BUDC comprised of Prof. Dr Kulsoom Fatima Rizvi, Head of Community Dentistry Department, BUDC, Dr Maria Moin (Assistant Professor), Dr Mohsin Haider and Dr Hajra Asghar (Lecturers) in the Department of Community & Preventive Dentistry and Dr Leeza, Dr Zoha, Dr Naseema, Dr Fatima and Dr Hammad (House officers) participated in the activity.
The session comprised an oral presentation of common oral diseases, highlighting their etiological & risk factors with particular emphasis on preventive measures. The information was conveyed through artificial teeth models, charts, and lively interaction, keeping in view the age and cooperation of the people. Oral hygiene practices such as tooth brushing techniques were also demonstrated on models. A dental checkup was provided, and the oral health condition was recorded on validated WHO forms.
The CSP team bought new toothbrushes and toothpaste on their own and distributed them among the people of the old home. Their queries were answered adequately.
The BUDC team looks forward to conducting more such oral health awareness sessions in such disadvantaged populations.
