WASHINGTON: The latest US 'Open Doors on International Students Exchange' report shows a significant surge in the number of students from Pakistan enrolled in higher education institutions in the United States.
The report jointly released by the State Department and the Institute of International Education (IIE) indicates a noteworthy increase from 8,772 Pakistani students in the previous year to 10,164 enrolling themselves in the US universities during the 2022-23 academic year, reflecting a substantial 16pc growth.
Pakistan's Ambassador to the United States, Masood Khan, welcomed this upward trend and expressed optimism that the current figures would double in the next three years, says a press release issued by the embassy.
He attributed this positive trajectory to ongoing collaborative efforts to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the education sector.
Ambassador Khan says that the rising enrollment of Pakistani students, both male and female, across various US institutes not only underscores the close educational ties between the two countries but also augurs well for robust bilateral relations in the future.
