ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has been set to launch the largest measles-rubella campaign next month to vaccinate 32 children in the country as part of efforts to ensure good health among children, the Ministry of Health recently stated.
Faisal Sultan, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health, shared the development during the National Inter-Agency Coordination Committee meeting. A high-level global ‘International Measles-Rubella Mission’ partners were present in the forum.
As per Measles & Rubella Initiative (M&RI), measles have been one of the most contagious diseases and a significant cause of mortality and disability among young children globally. On the other hand, rubella could cause severe congenital disabilities, the initiative said.
The Sindh Health Department also announced in a recent meeting to launch a province-wide immunisation drive from next month. They decided that the campaign would begin on Nov 15.
Measles-Rubella vaccine would be administered in place of measles vaccine, but the same routine immunisation schedule would be followed, i.e., at 9 months and 15 months of age.
