KARACHI: The Sindh Health Department has initiated a robust crackdown against the sale of counterfeit and exorbitantly priced life-saving drugs within the province. This operation was launched in response to the directives of Caretaker Health Minister Dr. Saad Khalid Niaz.
Chief Drug Inspector of Sindh, Ghulam Ali Lakho, in conjunction with Assistant Commissioner Aram Bagh, Nida Suman, executed surprise raids on various pharmacies situated along MA Jinnah Road. During these operations, the inspection teams uncovered instances of pharmacies selling medicines at inflated prices and tampering with the Maximum Retail Prices (MRP) listed on the packaging.
Chief Drug Inspector, Ghulam Ali Lakho, substantial fines were imposed on Marfani Medicos and received a penalty of Rs 25,000; Arham Enterprises was fined Rs 50,000; Zaki Medicos faced a hefty fine of Rs 75,000; and Blue Traders incurred a penalty of Rs 50,000.
The seized drugs have been collected as evidence and will undergo thorough laboratory testing to determine if they are indeed counterfeit, being sold above the regulated prices, or have had their MRP tampered with. This stringent action aims to protect the health and well-being of the citizens of Sindh by ensuring access to genuine and affordable life-saving medications.
