KARACHI: The Internship Program 2024 for medical students and graduates at the Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), University of Karachi, concluded with great success. Designed to inspire and equip future medical professionals, the program welcomed 13 final-year students and fresh graduates from MBBS and BDS disciplines, immersing them in cutting-edge biomedical research.

Organized annually, the program focuses on familiarizing participants with ongoing research on prevalent diseases and fostering a culture of scientific inquiry among medical and dental students. This year’s interns represented prominent institutions, including Dow University of Health Sciences, Fatima Jinnah Dental College, Isra University Hyderabad, Jinnah Sindh Medical University, Karachi Medical and Dental College, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical College.

The certificate distribution ceremony took place at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, where Prof. Dr. Farzana Shaheen, Director of ICCBS, praised the efforts of Prof. Dr. Asmat Salim and her team for organizing a unique, impactful program. The event drew a significant gathering of students and faculty members.

Addressing the participants, Prof. Dr. Shaheen emphasized the importance of early research engagement, stating, "Research training for medical and dental students is crucial in bridging the gap between clinical practice and scientific discovery. This program aims to provide hands-on exposure to basic and clinical research within a world-class environment, inspiring future healthcare leaders."

She further underscored the need for enhanced collaboration between researchers and clinicians at PCMD, highlighting that such synergy would elevate Pakistan’s research landscape. Commending the ICCBS's unwavering commitment to science and academia, she noted that the program's success reflects the center’s dedication to nurturing scientific talent.
