KARACHI - Medident Academy of Continuing Dental Education (MACDE) recently organized a two-day lecture-&-hands-on workshop titled "The Basics of Implantology" at Medident Clinics, recently. It was a complete hands-on workshop where each and every participant got the experience of placing an implant from the initial step of giving an incision on soft tissues till sutures as the last step to recovering implants, placing healing abutments, making open tray impressions, on very life like models. The brain behind this recently formed platform is that of a young group of dental professionals with a passion to impart their skills and knowledge for the benefit of the entire community. The workshop included detailed lectures on surgical and prosthetic aspects of placing an implant and complications thereto by Dr Salman Zafar, Dr Amir Rasheed, Dr Murtaza Raza Kazmi and Dr Aswad Ahmed. The surgical demonstration and hands-on was supervised by Dr Amir Rasheed and Dr Salman Zafar, while Dr Murtaza R. Kazmi supervised the prosthetic chapter. The participants ended up with the confidence of applying the knowledge and experience in their practice. The academy has been set up with a premise that Continuing Dental Education is a universally recognized part of professional development. Keeping this in mind, this group of the seasoned dental professionals took it upon themselves to give back to the dental community what they have learnt over the years, by playing their role in CDE. The academy, to be a non-profit organization, welcomes everyone to come forward and share their experience and knowledge with their colleagues, juniors and/or seniors. The best part of this organization is that there are no posts, positions or office bearers. The unique thing about this academic group is that all are at one platform, be they seniors or juniors. This is the reason why they encourage young professionals to present and share their experiences along with the senior ones. Though the organization MACDE is still in its infancy yet it has managed to organize 6 events after its soft launch in 2012. The future projects of MACDE include organizing more seminars, webinars and workshops not only for undergraduates, house officers and fresh graduates but also for postgraduates and clinicians.-PR
