PMC changes policy of NLE attempts for medical, dental students

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) has recently withdrawn the condition of only three attempts for the National Licensing Exam (NLE) and decided to allow students to appear in the exam for five years after completing their house job.

The PMC has made it mandatory to clear NLE before the start of clinical practice.

The Medical and Dental Council has approved a change to the NLE regulation that requires students to pass the NLE (Step 1 and Step 2, if applicable) within five years from the completion date of their house job or their first attempt whichever is earlier. There shall be no limit to the number of attempts during the prescribed period.

According to a spokesperson, the decision has been made in the best interest of the students. However, the limit of five years will not apply to those graduates who already have practice licences from abroad.
