The Department of Prosthodontics, Bahria University Medical and Dental College (BUMDC) organized 'Research Based' presentations competition, which was held amongst the students of 2nd year BDS, based on 08 groups.
Recognizing the need of research in the field of Dentistry, the concept behind this competition was to indulge the preclinical students into the scientific research phenomena, and to make them aware of literature searching. Moreover, to prepare them regarding research based presentations, following the standard guidelines, and to finally develop enough confidence to deliver an oral presentation.
The chief guests and the judges of the event were Head of Department Dental Materials, BUMDC, Dr. Syed Ahmed Omer and Associate Professor of Prosthodontics Dr. Saman Hakeem. She also supervised Dr. Anum Baqar, Senior Lecturer of Prosthodontics to organize the show.
The competition was based upon four themes that were Maxillary Anatomical landmarks, Mandibular Anatomical landmarks, Classification Systems in Prosthodontics and Impression Materials for Complete Denture.
Two groups shared the same baseline to work up with the procedure that started from literature search to delivering of respective presentations. They presentations followed an interactive session between judges and the members of each group. Based upon the pre-planned protocols, winner and runner-up groups were chosen.
The winners were group F for their assigned theme of Mandibular Anatomical Landmarks. The runner up were group G and A, based on Classification Systems in Prosthodontics and Maxillary Anatomical Landmarks, respectively.
At the end of the competition, each student was awarded with certificate of participation in appreciation for their efforts by the judges. Certificate of appreciation was also awarded to the facilitator, Dr. Anum Baqar. The students were appreciated by the judges and the organizers, for their work. They were encouraged to hold such academic activities, more oftenly.
