AIPH organises orientation session for fresh batch

KARACHI: An orientation session was held at the APPNA Institute of Public Health (AIPH), Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) for its fresh students of Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH).

JSMU Pro Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Director of Research, Deputy Registrar, Chairperson of AIPH, Director of AIPH, Director of the MSPH programme, faculty members and staff were also present.

In a statement, JSMU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Amjad Siraj Memon congratulated the new students and laude AIPH faculty for hard work and high research score. 

He also noted that AIPH produces quality professionals who serve the country and achieve high ranks in their respective fields.

Pro VC Dr Saadia Akram, in her address to the students, said that quality healthcare is a right of every society and that public health professionals are responsible for ensuring provision of that right.

She advised the students to set their goals high, develop policies to improve public health, and improve the healthcare system to help create a healthy society.

Registrar Dr Azam Khan said AIPH is the strongest pillar of the university, and the students are now a part of that pillar. 

Director of Research Prof Dr Huma Shareef said the concept of degree with coursework should be changed and that one should pursue research leading to positive change in society. 

She noted that JSMU promotes thesis with research work and that the next generation should focus on research to benefit the country.

AIPH Chairperson Prof Amna Rehana Siddiqui told the students that their Honorable VC Prof Memon has recently been nominated for civil award “Sitara-e-Imtiaz” in the field of science, urging them to follow in his footsteps.

Associate Professor Dr Shiraz Shaikh gave a brief introduction of the AIPH faculty and staff and

administered oath from the newly-admitted MSPH students.

Director of the MSPH programme Assistant Professor Dr Zaeema Ahmer gave a detailed

briefing about the MSPH course.

Director Naureen Zehra stated that JSMU has a zero-tolerance for harassment and violence and that all students are advised to visit the university’s official website to view the policies in place.

Dr Marium Zeeshan Bhutto moderated the event and recited verses from the Holy Quran, while Coordinator MSPH Salman Zaidi took the new batch to show them the facilities at the AIPH.
