KARACHI: In a simple but impressive ceremony, Aligners Pakistan was recently launched with a promise to guide orthodontists of Pakistan, a do-it-yourself option for making aligners in a very informed and calculated manner. Dental News is the exclusive media partner of the event.

The honourable President of Pakistan, Dr Arif Alvi, graced the occasion briefly and urged the participants to embrace this technology and align themselves to every changing dental landscape that comes into the field.

Dr Awab Alvi introduced Aligners Pakistan. He gave a detailed presentation about how dentists can design these aligners themselves in their clinics using freely available software, 3D printers and simple thermoforming machines to deliver clear aligners to their patients.

Dr Faizan followed up with a very detailed step by step presentation on the software being used to make these aligners and explained how the whole designing process worked. A live demo of an intra-oral digital impression scan was also arranged.

The presentation was followed by a tour of the facility and a hands-on experience on the software and 3D printers arranged for all participants. Many took time to tinker with the software and then carefully monitored the 3D printing process.

Clear aligners are a series of custom-made tooth ‘aligners’ which gradually straighten & align teeth. Each aligner in the series is formed with small incremental movements, which cause the aligner material to deflect and stretch over the teeth when inserted. As the plastic in the aligner attempts to spring back to its original shape, force is delivered to the teeth, producing tooth movement.

All the renowned senior orthodontists of Karachi were invited, including Dr Ambreen Afzal, Dr Mubassir Fida, Dr Shah Faisal, Dr Hasnain Sakrani, Dr Rashna  Agha, Dr Babar Ashraf, Dr Attiya Sheikh and many others.

We wish Dr Awab Alvi and Team Aligner Pakistan success in their future endeavours.
