LAHORE: The University College of Medicine and Dentistry (UCMD), The University of Lahore, marked the MH Qazi Dental Research Day, to inspire and recognize the research endeavors of students, and provide them a platform to showcase their innovative ideas and discoveries.
A focal point of the event was a poster competition, featuring research projects from dental students in their First and Second Professional Years. The project "Bioactive Regenerative Materials and their Impact on Dental Restoration," won the contest for demonstrating exceptional expertise in cutting-edge dental materials, while "Providing an Environment where Tissues Can Regenerate," remained runner-up. Both groups were supervised by Dr Aqsa Arif. The People's Choice Award went to a group supervised by Dr Anusha Khan for their project, "Root Canal Obturation: An Update."
The Oral Presentation Competition provided a platform for students to articulate their research findings. The top presentation, "Outcome of Root Coverage Procedures in Smokers vs. Non-Smokers: A Systematic Review," supervised by Dr Muhammad Haseeb, HOD Periodontology, showcased a profound understanding of the subject matter. The runner-up presentation, "Determination of the Location of Mandibular Foramen Using CBCT, a Radioanatomical Study," under the guidance of Dr Tooba Saeed, Assistant Prof, Oral Surgery Department, provided valuable insights into radiographic anatomy.
Teachers from various universities judged the projects. Deputy Chairman Uzair Raoof was the chief guest, while Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, Rector of The University of Lahore was guest of honour.
The event was led by Prof Dr Moghees A Baig. Dr Baig emphasised the importance of AI projects, foreseeing a shift away from repetitive jobs.
Special thanks were extended to key contributors, including Dr Muhammad Aslam, Medical Superintendent of The University Dental Hospital, Dr. Muhammad Hassan, Head of the Department of Dental Materials, Dr. Arooj ul Hassan, Head of the Community and Preventive Dentistry Department, Dr. Wajiha Alamgir, Head of the Oral Pathology and Oral Diagnostics Department, and Dr. Adeel Anwar, Assistant Professor of Oral Pathology.
