KARACHI - Community Dentistry Department, Baqai Dental College had organized a hands on workshop on Fissure Sealant application, for its 2nd year BDS students in order to make the students aware of techniques used in to preve-nting caries and its occurrence in high risk patients. The purpose of such a workshop was to teach the students about the different types of sealants and its application to fissure as a way of preventing measures to avoid dental caries. The workshop started at 12:30pm sharp. First, the class was divided into four equal groups with each group supervised by one faculty members for smooth running of the program. Supervisors were of Dr Ali, Dr. Samreen, Dr. Raza and Dr. Mehwish. Lecture was delivered by community head, Dr Shigri, at the start of the workshop about indications and importance of fissure sealant in dentistry. Afterwards each supervisor performed the fissure sealant application technique on phantom tooth in front of his respective and then students themselves were provided phantom tooth, material and light cure machine. Each student applied fissure sealant to his/her own phantom tooth while technique used was closely monitored by the supervisor. Dr. Kashif Ikram, Principal Baqai Dental College, also visited the workshop and appreciated the efforts of Community Dentistry Department in highlighting the preventive aspects of dentistry.
