KARACHI: Bahria University Medical & Dental College organized different programmes to mark the World Oral Health Day (WOHD 2016). The university which had chalked out an elaborate programme to highlight the importance of oral health organized a seminar, free dental checkups and a walk at PNS Shifa. The BUMDC’s WOHD-2016 celebrations’ inaugural ceremony held at the Bahria auditorium was attended by members of the dental faculty and students. Dr. Daud Mirza, HOD Oral Pathology and In Charge WOHD-16 celebrations programme and a BDS (Final Year) student, Affaf Fatima, spoke on the occasion. The seminar was addressed, among others, by BUMDC’s director-general vice admiral(Retd) Tahseenullah Khan,Dental Section’s principalProf Dr Zubair Ahmed Abbassi, dental faculty members and students. Hamdard University’s Prof Dr Kashif Naqvi and PNS Shifa Hospital’s Dr Mubina Arif, who were guest speakers at the seminar, delivered lectures on the topics of “Impact of Oral Health on Systemic Health” and “Role of die’st in oral diseases”, respectively. Later, a short theatrical episode was presented to highlight the importance of oral health and good hygiene. The best smile contest was organized by Affaf Fatima and judges of the competition were heads of Orthodontics and Periodontology departments, Dr Tabassum Ahsanand Dr Mushtaq Ahmed, respectively. A free dental camp was also organised as part of WOHD celebrations. Later, BUMDC’s director-general and Dental Section’s principal gave away certificates among the guest speakers, faculty members and organizers.
