KARACHI: Fatima Jinnah Dental College (FJDC) celebrated International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
A significant gender gap has persisted throughout the years at all levels of science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines worldwide. Although women have made tremendous progress towards increasing their participation in higher education, they are still under-represented in these fields.
Bridging this gap, FJDC promotes full and equal access to women in participation in science. More than two-thirds of FJDC’s faculty members are female. They believe in gender equality and equal pay. Most of their female graduates have successful careers and are working diligently at high-ranking positions nationally and internationally.
FJDC role model Mohtarma Fatima Ali Jinnah, whom the institute is named after, was herself a dental surgeon and encouraged women and girls to step forward and work in their fields, especially sciences.
There is still a strong need to advocate the inclusion of women in the sciences, and FJDC is at the forefront in shedding light on this important issue.
