In a press conference at the Pakistan Medical Association House in Lahore, PMA strongly opposed the dissolution of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council and the establishment of the new Pakistan Medical Commission.
PMA Lahore General Secretary Dr Malik Shahid Shaukat, Dr Izhar Ahmed, Prof. Tanvir Anwar, Dr Aleem Nawaz, Dr Shehzadi, Dr Wajid Ali, Dr Buhsra Haq, Dr Ahmed Naeem, Dr Salman Kazmi, Dr Rana Sohail, Dr Talha Sherwani, and Dr Imran Shah were present at the occasion.
PMA Lahore labelled the government’s move as unconstitutional, unlawful, unnecessary, immoral, and destructive to the medical and dental institutions of the country.
It was remarked at the meeting that it was unbelievable how the current government continued to push existing institutions toward failure, instead of establishing newer, effective ones.
It was agreed at the meeting that this new change will prove to be tragic for Pakistani doctors practicing within and outside the countries, as well as the new graduates. Abolishing an already established and recognized council will put a question mark on the qualifications of the Pakistani qualified doctors.
The PMA has requested the government to take down the new ordinance and reinstate PMDC.
