KARACHI: The Community Dentistry Department of Dow Dental College (DDC), Dow University Of Health Sciences (DUHS), recently arranged an E-visit of faculty and students of DUHS to Ahmed Bawany Academy to assure the uninterrupted continuation of health promotion efforts.
As Academic Life was disrupted in the wake of the COVID 19 pandemic, internet-based E-learning provided the platform necessary to continue uninterrupted dental education in a safe environment while minimising Covid 19 exposure.
They used the ‘Google meet’ software to connect oral health care promoters, including Dr Muhammad Taqi, Head of Community Dentistry Department, DDC, Dr Adnan Sukkurwalla, Fatima Farooq, Laiba Ali, Sarosh, Sonia, Kalpana and Chena with students and seven schoolteachers.
The third-year students of DUHS put together a creative presentation that included animated pictures and texts specifically designed for students of middle age from age 7 to 14 years. The main objective of this campaign was to increase the awareness of oral health and teach proper brushing and oral hygiene techniques to improve children oral hygiene.
Oral health is the mirror of general health. Focusing on further expanding the internet-based E-learning platforms for oral health promotion and community engagement seems to be the best strategy to support children in developing lifelong skills for maintaining oral health.
In the end, an interactive session was conducted, in which students asked questions about their personal and daily life issues regarding oral health. The teachers and the principal of the school appreciated the efforts of DDC.
