ISLAMABAD: As the Pakistan Meteorological Department issues a heatwave warning, hospitals in Islamabad have been placed on high alert to promptly respond to potential emergencies. The Islamabad administration has urged PIMS and Polyclinics hospitals to ensure preparedness in addressing medical needs during the ongoing hot weather.
In light of the situation, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has provided guidelines to the public, aiming to safeguard against the intense heatwave and summer winds. The advisory emphasizes the importance of staying hydrated by consuming plain water instead of carbonated drinks, as well as avoiding outdoor activities during the hottest hours of the day. Additionally, it suggests protective measures such as wearing light, loose clothing and covering the head.
The NDMA also stresses the need to prioritize the well-being of vulnerable groups, including the sick, elderly, children, and pets. To address potential salt deficiency, the advisory recommends drinking lemon water and Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS). Furthermore, in case of someone fainting due to the heat, the NDMA advises pouring cold water on their head.
The collective efforts of hospitals, local authorities, and the public are crucial in mitigating the risks associated with the ongoing heatwave. By following the provided guidelines, individuals can take proactive steps to protect their health and ensure the well-being of others during this challenging weather condition.
