Gharo: Department of Community Dentistry, Baqai Dental College, under the supervision of Head of Department, Prof. Dr. Asghar Ali Shigri along with his team members, Dr. Samreen Shafqat, Dr. Mohammad Ali, Dr. Mahwish Bano and Dr. Raza Abidi, organized an educational field visit of 2nd year B.D.S. students to Baqai Medical Complex, Khushal Nagar Gharo for providing useful information regarding oral health and its maintenance, alongside performing dental check-ups of Salimullah Fahmi Primary Memorial School’s students.
All dental students were given an elaborated introduction about the place and its establishment by Dr. Farhan Sufi and Mr. Muhammad Irfan. Baqai Centre Gharo consists of a hospital, a skilled technical centre and primary school, consisting of around 450 students from class Nursery to 8th grade. These kids are provided with free education, books and uniforms, all funded by Baqai Foundation.
Dental students were divided into different groups, visited different classes and provided school children with basic education regarding oral hygiene, its maintenance, brushing technique and discussed certain dental health problems. Thorough dental examinations were also performed upon each kid.
After the completion of the program, refreshments were served and photographs were taken.
Such community based visits are helpful for the under graduate dental students, as it makes them aware about our society’s oral health status, increases their knowledge regarding their respective profession, boosts the students with confidence to evaluate and cater masses.
