KARACHI- A patient was brought into Cardiac Emergency Centre Landhi, suffering from Heatstroke. This 50 year old man Nazeer Ahmed, resident of Landhi No.3, was announced stable after providing him with initial treatment, and was cleared for discharge; Senior Director, Medical & Health Services, KMC informed.
Dr. Birbal, Senior Director KMC, further stated that, so far, zero deaths have been reported in Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) run health facilities. Upon further questioning, he added that, a dead body of a 45 year old Muhammad Pervaiz was brought in Abbasi Shaheed Hospital from New Sabzi Mandi area, who passed away due to a heart attack and not from heatstroke.
Two patients, Muhammad Anwer,45 and Wahid,36, suffering from dehydration were brought in to the Heatstroke Management Centre at Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK). They were provided with first aid treatment and were discharged shortly after.
All citizens are to look into the symptoms associated with heatstroke, that are, throbbing headache, dizziness or light-headedness, lack of sweating despite heat, red and dry skin, cramps, nausea and vomiting, rapid (strong or weak) heartbeat, rapid shallow breathing, confusion, disorientation, staggering, seizures and ultimately, unconsciousness.
