LAHORE: The Department of Community and Preventive Dentistry, University College of Dentistry (UCD), The University of Lahore (UOL), collaborated with Nutrifactor and arranged the Bone Density Measurement booth and Nutritionist consultation event at the University Dental Hospital, UOL.
This event was conducted as a part of the week-long series of seminars and events to celebrate World Oral Health Week. The activity aimed to raise awareness regarding the importance of bone density, its problems, complications and management in patients.
Bone density depletion is a problem that might affect anyone in any age group. It is relatively more common in females of older age due to osteoporosis and can also result from improper diet or other systemic health issues.
More than 200 people participated in the event, including faculty members, students and patients. The participants sat down with nutritionist Dr Huria Arooj, who asked them about their signs and symptoms. Their bone density level was also checked using the Bone Mineral Density Machine to identify any discrepancy in the bone density levels. She then mentioned the lifestyle changes for each patient to improve their bone health. Prescriptions were also handed over to participants where necessary.
The senior faculty of UCD also participated in the activity. They were appreciative of the event's coordinators and explained the importance of such events to improve the patient experience and morale of the healthcare providers.
Prof. Dr Riaz Ahmed Warraich, Principal UCD, visited the bone mineral density stations and met with the team conducting the activity. He lauded the team's efforts and the department for arranging such an insightful event and looks forward to more of such events.
