KARACHI: A Community Outreach activity was conducted by the Department of Community and Preventive dentistry Baqai Dental College, Baqai Medical University at ‘Quaid-e-Azam Rangers School and College Super Highway Karachi.
This camp was led by Prof Dr Asghar Ali Shigri (HOD) along with other Assistant Professors, Dr Samreen Mazher, Dr Mahwish Bano, Dr Raza Abbidi, Dr Wajiha Anzar, and 2nd year BDS students. The main objectives of this visit were to increase the competency of oral screening and oral health education skills among 2nd year BDS students which would aid school children in improving their oral health and towards prevention of oral diseases.
Students in 9th and 10th grades were directed to gather in the seminar room. This event initiated with a welcome address by the School Principal which was followed by a session on oral health awareness by the dental students, the main focus of this session was to educate school children about the importance of Oral health on systemic health, food beneficial for oral cavity, the impact of parafunctional habits and preventive measures to improve oral health, students were also demonstrated proper tooth brushing technique and were given a chance to perform a hands-on exercise on models.
Later on, dental students were divided into groups and were sent to the respective classes for performing oral screening of individuals. All the students and faculty members participated enthusiastically in this event. The entire event ended with a group picture and appreciation from the students and school administration.
